Boost Your Credit Score: Free Report and Dispute Strategies
Did you know you can obtain a free credit report once a year and submit disputes through Annual Credit Report.com? This is the quickest and easiest way to correct or dispute inaccurate information on your credit report and possibly increase your credit score.
Don’t pay a credit report company to do this for you. Just allow about 30-60mins to review each report as each report contains different information.
You will need to provide personal information such as your name, date of birth, social security number, current address and previous address if you have not lived at your current address for more than two years. You will also be prompted to answer personal questions to confirm your identity such as previous employers, monthly payments and credit information. The questions are timed so if you are assisting someone else with this process, make sure they are near by to answer the questions.
After creating an account, you will be taken through the three major credit bureau sites Experian, TransUnion and Equifax. There is an option to print or save each credit report which I highly recommend. Make sure to create an account with each bureau so you can login at a later time and check the status of disputes or other information. If prompted for an email address, supply one that you normally check as you will receive updates via email. Some bureaus will also send a text or email to confirm your identity.
Dispute any account that has inaccurate information or that you do not believe is valid. Creditors have 30 days to respond. If they do not respond with proof to confirm the account reported, it will automatically be removed increasing your credit score.
I’ve seen credit scores increase from 20-100 points by following these steps. Good luck and hopefully this helps to increase your credit score.
